Fridge thermostat seized
« on: May 21 2023, 20:22 »
The fridge stat on my fridge is seized and can’t be adjusted. I have read of folk who replaced it with an electronic version.

Has anybody got the details of this job… what was used? …. Thanks

I mounted mine in the hand-hole for lifting the starboard saloon seat, just above the compressor. The wiring is short and i don't actually need to modify setpoints or to see temps all day. If i need to check something it's easy to get too, with no additional holes or modification.

It's all local. You connect the thermostat power parallel with the fridge power (not the fan, which only runs when told by the thermostat). Then the switched output from the thermostat where the old one was. You also have to route the temperature probe and cable into the fridge somewhere, on ours it was easy to do from the front.

I fitted the thermostat display in the furniture of the fridge, so you always have a temperature readout to tell you when the fridge is struggling and/or fascinate guests :)

See attached drawing. We placed the sensor 2/3 hight at the back of the fridgebox.
Thermostat contact is in parallel with the original mechanic thermostat. So you van use both (be sure to turn off the mechanical thermostat when running on electronic thermostat).
Thermostat setpoints: switch ON at 12,5 Celsius, and switch OFF at 9 Celsius.
The bottom temperature of the fridge box will be much lower (5 Celsius).
