Bavaria furniture colour from 2003
« on: May 11 2023, 09:01 »
I have to repair the damage on the table and the wardrobe.
It is a minor dime size damage that I intend to put a veneer on. After that, I should paint the veneer to look as similar as possible to the original colour.

It is a Bavarian from 2003 with a characteristic reddish-orange color of the wood. The picture shows a boat that has the same color as mine, I believe that all Bavarians of this year had the same colour of furniture.

Has anyone restored furniture on a bavaria of a similar age, how to get this bavaria reddish orange color?

I found bondex paint for wood, I tried with teak wood colour, but I don't have this reddish orange color. Mahogany seems too dark.

The actual veneer is sapele ,which is a variety of mahogany. I have repaired small bits of water damage by gently rubbing back the area ,and surroundings then several thin spray coats of varnish [in uk Lidl] Geoff

Thank you very much Geoff.

This damage is not of a large area, but the entire upper part of the wood has been torn off, so I have to put a veneer on it, I will try to paint it with mahogany, it is probably the most similar to sapele.

But for decolorization from water I will use your advice.

Some people did nice work with Ronseal Deep Mahogany Satin.

Unfortunately in my part of the world (Croatia, Slovenia) it is hard to get Ronseal, and many other brands that you refer to.

If your boat is like mine , inside all the cupboards under the deck the top surface is sealed off with a thin sapele ply panel . Take it out [2screws] it will be a perfect match . The cupboard liner is never seen . Geoff

The 2003 on boats are different from earlier boats and the veneer is lighter and with a more glossy finish. Not so easy to match.
