Gennaker without bowsprit anyone?

(1/1)

A & A:
I have a Vision 46 and considering to get myself some more downwind sail area. Not sure if I want the solution with a retractable bowsprit (Seldén) and willnot be able to mount a fixed one until next summer. So, does anybody have experience from attatching the gennaker tack directly on the bow? Guess that would be 20 cm in front of the genoa furler…

Krumelur:
On our 40 the genaker is "flying", it's attached to a shackle behind the genua ("behind" meaning: it's closer to the stern close to where the lid of the anchor chain compartment ends). Therefore we cannot jibe when the genaker is set.
On the 46 you'd have some space between the bow and the anchor compartment, so it would likely be fitted in front of the lid, I guess.

IslandAlchemy:
I fly my genniker from the bow.  Works fine.

A & A:
IslandAlchemy,

To fly the gennaker, have you simply added a ring bolt to the tip of the bow? And do you have a furler or a sock? And do you have an adjustable downhaul or fixed? Perhaps a picture would answer my questions...  :)
