Teak Caulking in Cockpit of Bavaria 42
« on: October 21 2022, 14:17 »
Hi all,

I am planning to remove the old caulking from the teak in the cockpit and apply the new caulking. After removing the old caulking and applying the new caulking to the gaps between teaks, I just wondering how long if any I need to wait for before I remove the excessive new caulking ?

Thanks a lot.

Should say on the datasheet, usually in mm curing depth per 24h period. Typically I'd wait at least 48 hours before sanding, preferably longer.

When I've done this job, I've tried to minimise the amount of sanding needed by masking both edges of each groove before caulking.  You can remove the masking tape soon after applying the caulk.  Have a cardboard box handy to drop the pieces of masking tape into.  Put a brick or similar in the bottom of the box to stop it blowing away!
