Gas Strut Type
« on: August 16 2022, 11:33 »
 Hi All,
I'm looking to buy a replacement Rod Kicker Gas Strut from SVB for our 2008 Bav39 Cruiser with in mast furling.

The part number on the strut is G28-300-2500N-02 but the SVB site is now asking me if I have Type 20 or Type 30 rig !!

I believe this to be related to the boom height but I cant find dimensions on the internet.

Does anyone know which type I should be buying.

                      Thanks.

See https://www.gotthardt-yacht.de/rigg-deck/selden-masten/selden-rodkicker-zubehoer/selden-rodkicker-20?c=141 where all different types of rodkickers are listed. Measure boom height to find correct type.
If you are not sure, calculate the righting moment using following link https://support.seldenmast.com/en/services/calculators/rm_calculator.html
You can take all necessary input from your owners manual.

Dear SYjetzt,
I'm not on the boat at the moment so cant do the measurement or look at the owners manual.  However, it seems that the key dimension for the boom height is either 1400mm or 1800mm.  I stand about 1850mm tall and its a lot lower than me so I'm guessing the boom height at 1400mm so its a type 20.

Does this sound about right ?

I think the boom height is not the only parameter to consider.
Try to find a matching owners manual in this website and do the maths for calculating the righting moment. I think this will give you more confidence.
