Hello everyone

Yesterday, inexplicably, I lost the propeller of my 2010 Bavaria 40 Cruiser.

Fortunately, it happened in the marina just 200 mts after leaving my mooring.

How can it have happened? I didn't do any hits with chains or moorings from other boats. I don't understand.

My boat mount a Saildrive 130S system and I don't understand the specifications in the user manual regarding "2,19:1" as a reduction ratio.

Can someone tell me, please, what propeller should I mount, measurements, etc.

If it's posible, I would like to replace it with one just like the one I was wearing. The original three-bladed.

Thank you very much in advance and greetings from Mallorca

Juan

Usually happens when someone doesn't torque things to spec and doesn't apply threadlocker to the locking bolt. Then the vibrations can losen the bolt, it eventually drops out, the cone can come undone and then the propeller just falls off soon after.

It's what happens if someone didn't do their job properly, which is unfortunately very common. Only way to be sure is to watch their fingers, or just do it yourself :)

The other option is that they overtorque the cone and then it's a pain in the ass to remove next time :)

I've posted the torque settings (for our Saildrive 120S-E) in this thread: https://bavariayacht.org/forum/index.php?topic=2184.0

200 meter from mooring? I would ask a diver. I have done it several years ago, describe him the position in the harbor he dives down and come up with the prop. i think is wears a trie

Size depends on which engine you have. Most common is the D2 40 which will have a 17*12. Option D2 55 is 17*15 and D1 30 16*11. Not sure many were made with the small engine.

2.19 is the reduction ratio, standard on the 130 drive except on the rare A version.

I have a D2-40 and the serial hull number is DEBAVS40U2E010.
BAVARIA 40 CRUISER 2010

So, I understand that the must common is 17x12?

I sincerely appreciate your contributions.
Thank you very much

I did but it has not been posible. Too many traffic in those days. They would have to look for the propeller in the main channel of the Marina.
I think (hope) that the insurance can pay me something for the incident

They are not expensive - just over £400 complete with cone kit in the UK and may well be similar to your insurance excess.

Hi

Unfortunately you are not the first one it has happened too. My fixed propeller fell off just after motoring out of Largs yacht Haven. I claimed on the insurance and they paid for the lift out and replacement and lift back in. i fitted a folding propeller and kept the replacement as a spare on the boat.

It seems the outer shell of the propeller corrodes and then splits away from the rubber inner.

Good luck
