volvo Penta Easy Connect Interface on D2 MDI
« on: June 28 2022, 21:18 »
Anyone have experience connecting thi interface to an MDI

Drawing suggest just connecting to the nmea2000 network but I'm not sure the mdo is connected to the network. Boat is a Vision model.

Any insight super appreciated!

Documentation suggests that the Volvo MDI speaks a type of J1939.
If I was to guess, the Easy Connect Interface acts as a translator between NMEA2000 and Volvo's native protocol. So that you can include sensors that use nmea2000.

There is a Y harness adapter that should allow you to put it on the same harness branch as your rpm gauge.

If you want to see your engine data on your plotter, there are much cheaper solutions than the original VP stuff. https://www.yachtd.com/products/engine_gateway_gallery.html
