Replacement keys for Ray Marine auto pilot?
« on: April 08 2022, 07:48 »
The auto pilot unit on my boat is damaged by UV.
The display and the hardware are still fine but keys are a bit “crispy” thanks to the sun.
One of the little plastic separators between the keys fell off.  Since I was able to push it back in and it clicked into place I was wondering whether it would be possible to buy a complete set of replacement keys. Or, maybe the entire keypad can be replaced as one part without replacing the hardware unit itself?
I’m not at the boat at the moment so unfortunately I do not have pictures. But it’s the newer line of Ray Marine, probably the first ones that are black instead of gray.

Is it a P70 like this?

Your best bet is probably to hunt down a defective unit with good condition buttons on eBay and then swap the bits around.

And always put on your sun covers when not in use. UV light is astonishingly destructive, cooks LCD displays and crumbles plastics.

Yep, I think it's this one. For others there are replacement keys. But not for this, at least not that I would find some.
That bears the question whether the keys can be removed at all with this version?

Well look at this. Different search on Google revealed a match (see image).
The part numbers seem to be:

- p70 keypad: R70049
- i70 keypad: R70044

Now I need to find an actual part and not just an image. I could print it and glue it to my device ;-)

Just a quick update to prevent others from making the same mistake: the shop www.qjavaherico.com pretends to have the keypad in stock but it's fake. I noticed too late and likely lost €50. There's currently a dispute going on with PayPal. Lesson learned: if it looks too good to be true, it's likely fake.

PayPal has contacted (threatened?) the shop owner and I have my money back but obviously no keypad.
For reference to save others: the account's PayPal name is "Kimberlee Frost"
