I'm about to leave my boat behind in its home base marina. The boat's tied up using two bow mooring lines and two aft lines on the cleats.
All other boats around me are using two additional diagonal aft springs from the pier two a second pair of cleats in the cockpit area.
I'd love to give my boat a second pair of springs, too but I'm lacking cleats. I was wondering if it would be okay to use the smaller winches near the rudder instead? This would only be for backup, but still, I'm unsure.

On 40 2008 you cann'ot use diagonal spring. I use two additional ropes on primary winches.

Why can't you do diagonal springs? What's limiting you?
