Bavaria 40: Replacement mattresses?

The mattresses in our 2010 Bavaria are disgusting and due for replacement.
We’re currently contemplating whether it’s feasible to buy a regular mattress and cut it into the required shape. I was wondering, what everybody’s using as a replacement?
The mattress for the fore cabin is particularly tricky because of the extension in the head area on the starboard side. Also height is an issue. A regular mattress is typically around 18 cm where is I think the ones on the boat are about 10 cm – correct me if I’m wrong.
Ideas are welcome!

We bought memory foam mattresses and sliced them to shape with an electric carving knife.

Do you have more specs? Brand? Height?

We have a B38 2003, with our layout, there are no mattress height restrictions.

You could take a look at memory foam mattress toppers for a thinner option.

I think I would be able to find a mattress at IKEA.
I can totally see myself cutting it into the right shape.

However: I am unsure about the part extending the mattress in the forecabin on the starboard side.
I am wondering, if it’s possible to make this an extra piece and glue it to the rest of the mattress. If somebody has an idea, please let me know.

Glueing foam pieces together is a simple thing with contact adhesive. I used spray to put the pieces together.
Apply first layer of spray on both sides, wait until surface is'nt sticking anymore, spray a second layer, wait approx. 15 seconds and press both pieces well aligned together. You have only one try, sliding the pieces in position is'nt  really possible. Let the pieces cure for 12 hours.

I guess I could glue them together on a flat surface and then start cutting.
I wish a had template for the mattresses. I'd love to prepare everything at home and go to the boat with everything done.

Pour le remplacement de vos matelas :
- quelle type de mousse avez-vous utilisée ? (haute densité, haute résilience,...),
 -quelle niveau de fermeté (moelleux, ferme, très ferme)?
- quelle densité de mousse (poids/m2) ?
Par ailleurs avez-vous conservé l'habillage extérieur du matelas et inséré une nouvelle mousse à l'intérieur ou avez-vous tout remplacé  (housse et mousse) ?
Voilà beaucoup de questions...pour un simple matelas !!

I did it in different ways.
For the aft cabins i purchased medium density foam RG 50/40 in the same thickness as the old ones in pieces of 2000x1000mm and cutted them to same shape as the old pieces, using an electric kitchen knife. As the covers where pretty good, my first mate put them into the washing machine (30°C) and we fitted them again. In the aft cabin we had no chance for fitting higher mattresses due to the cusions in front of the lockers, which have the same height like the mattresses and will block lockers doors, if higher.
For owners cabin (in bow cabin) we got new, higher and far better mattresses. I'm a pretty skinny guy with 130kg and have some trouble with my back, i bought pretty firm mattresses (as suggested by my orthopedist), put them into my bed at home and checked them over 3 months. After prooving them, i put them on the boat, cut them to shape, using the old mattresses as a template and my first mate sewed new covers, using the original new covers by cutting away the excess fabric and leaving the original zipper in place.  If the mattress cover needs cleaning, we can remove it using the existing zipper. Really fine resting in our bed now.....
