2005 42C companionway step.

Dante is 2005 42 Cruiser. There ise a step in front of the companionway. It can be lift up. Does anyone know why?

For stowing the tails of the halyards rather than hanging them from the winches.

At first I also think so. But when it rains halyards are getting wet and stays wet for a long time. I wonder if there is another usage.

I thought of adding that it is not very effective, but guess somebody at Bavaria thought it was a good idea to give an extra selling point for very little cost!
