Which Perkins engine is the D1-30 circa 2015?
« on: September 12 2021, 13:26 »
I am doing away with the MDI unit, button panel to make the system simple and reliable with standard instruments.

What I need to do first is the temperature and oil pressure gauges for which I need unit size holes and thread type. Hence request for original engine block.

Ta in advance for all help.

It is a Japanese Perkins Shibaura engine. Your best bet is https://www.parts4engines.com

You don’t happen to know the thread sizes for temp and oil senders do you?

I changed the water temp sender several years ago from switch/alarm-only to an analogous temp sender with an additional switch from VDO. Same Engine, D1-30. Thread is M18/1,5. I needed an adapter M14->M18 as the sender from VDO was M14.

Thank you so much for the information Beeblebox. I can move ahead and order that.

Just the oil sensor thread size to go.

Hi Geoff,

you're welcome. The replacement of the original oil pressure switch (alarm only) with a sender unit is also on one of my todo-lists - but with a lower priority :-) But if i remember it correctly (found somewhere in the net) that is NPT 1/8. SVB sells KUS senders : https://www.svb24.com/en/kus-oil-pressure-sensor-0-5-bar-10-184-ohm-with-alarm.html. And it might be that you will need an 90 degree adapter, because of little space (bigger diameter of the sender compared to the switch).

But - i am not 100% sure that this is the fact, because I haven't checked that. If you find out, it would be great to share it here :-)

I can confirm the 1/8NPT for the oil pressure sender on a D2-75F, which is of the same shibaura engine type family.
Fitted such a combined sensor(switch and analog sensor), connected the switch to the original input on the MDI and the analog sensor to the new instrument (0-5bar). According to VP spare part list the sensor on D1-30 and D2-75F should be the same, but worth further investigation

Did you fit the new oil sensor low down on the left hand side of the engine as you look at it in the normal place?

I recently found some info in a forum where people were fitting them to an area at the front of the engine where there is an allen bolt screwed in. I am going to look at that when I go to the boat this saturday.
