Fixing a lose bow-cleat
« on: July 25 2021, 13:41 »
Hello,
the bow cleat stb-side on my Bav 34/2, 2000  is a little lose.
How can I reach the bolts from the inside?
I removed the side wall panel, but I can only reach the railing post.
From the ancorbox there is also no screw visible.

Drilling Holes in the ceiling panel? How closing this holes after fixing?

Regards Thomas from Tobi in Croatia

there are no nuts on my 37cr 2006. only screw in gfk. an other people with Bavaria build 2005 has lost it in storm and advised me to unscrew, drill holes and take screws with nuts and washers. if done the job. not very confutable but you can do it by behavior like a snake laugh. i have done so

I think you will find the fastenings are machine screws into aluminium plates bonded into the deck. So no nuts inside.

Hi,
if the screws are in a alu-plate how can I thigten them firmly?
They are even with the upper edge of the cleat. No space for a wrench.

Those have backing plates, washers and nuts underneath. Look harder! On our boat you can just get to them in the gap between the inner deck moulding and the topsides. Stick your nose up in there and look again :) Measure distance from the bow to make sure you're even looking in the right area.

Your cleat will have washers and nuts on the underside of the deck.  Try putting your phone in the area and take a few photos, that will help you determine where the nuts are.

They are bolted through and have a backing plate on the underside.

You need to remove the cupboard backs in the fore-cabin and you will then feel the nuts behind them.

You will need a socket set in order to tighten them as there isn't enough room for a ring spanner.
