Calorifier repairs

Hi all seeking advice re the removal of the calorifier on my B30 Cruiser.
A metal connection pipe from the calorifier has become detached depositing the contents of the water tank into the bilge. I need to know the implications of removing and refitting the unit (I can arrange re soldering the pipe myself). For instance if I remove all pipe connections how does this affect the engine water supply, or not, and is there anything else that I need to consider. Is this a job for an amateur or should it be carried out by a specialist. Thanks in advance.

It'll open the coolant loop on the engine (unless bypass valves are fitted). Either way the coolant in the pipes will come out, so best to drain that out somewhere and fill back in afterwards. Or do it while you're doing the coolant change anyways

It's just plumbing otherwise, no reason not to tackle it yourself. Make sure the engine is cold to avoid scalding.

Hello and thanks for the swift reply. You state that the engine cooling loop will be opened therefore will I need to bleed the system when refilling. If possible could you please detail the steps required for emptying and refilling the system. Currently the engine water filler tank is full and the fresh water tank empty, therefore can I continue to run the engine while contemplating doing the job.

The steps for draining and refilling the coolant are in your engine maintenance instructions. You didn't say which engine you have.

There's not really much bleeding needed, although you usually keep an eye on coolant level for a bit after doing the job in case there was an air bubble and it needs topping up.
