Yanmar 3gm30f
« on: March 09 2021, 09:09 »
My Bavaria 350 has a Yanmar engine, as far as I can tell It is the original engine. All other 350's that I have seen have been fitted with Volvo engines, in fact every Bavaria that I have seen has a Volvo engine. Is mine the only one fitted with a Yanmar or was it re-engined at some point?

No, the Yanmar was an option, although most chose Volvo. Around 1999 they went 100% Volvo but have now gone to Yanmar again on some of the new big boats.

I had a 3GM30F in my last boat.  Having owned it for over 20 years, it was a very reliable engine that needed very little attention.  With clean fuel, air, and oil it was pretty much bulletproof.  I did have to change the exhaust elbow several times.  They tend to get clogged with soot and corrosion.  They now make a stainless elbow.  I put that one most recently.  A great innovation and an attractive addition.

Thank you for your answers. We've had Laysula for six years now and the engine has always been superb.
