Bavaria 38 ocean windscreen handles washers
« on: November 21 2020, 10:17 »
Hi
Need the replace the washers for the grab  handles that are fixed to glass wind/spray screen as corroded.  Had a look on the SVB Bavaria web site but the size looks different.  Anyone replaced these or used something else?
Thanks
J

The windscreen is made by Ertec, same as the Hallberg-Rassy ones. The HR parts store used to have the washers, but checking now it seems they're no longer available from there: http://shop.hallberg-rassy.com/contents/en-us/d295.html

Ours have decayed too due to dissimilar metal corrosion and I've simply cut out some big plastic spacers and a penny washer. This has been in place a few years and unlike the original has no corrosion issues, although doesn't look quite as yottie! A prettier job is probably possible, but I had to do it with whatever was onboard at the time and never changed it as it works well.

One thing to add, the hole in the glass is larger than the bolt diameter. The original fitting had a protrusion that fits into this space (which by now will probably have crumbled away). Without this, the handle can move as the bolt slides around in the hole. It can be substituted with a short section of plastic tube/small diameter hose or even some sealant.

Whatever you do you need to ensure that the st st bolt doesn’t come into contact with the glass. If it does the glass is likely to crack.
