Swim platform rams

I have searched the forum for this topic but found nothing so apologies if this has been dealt with in the past.

I have a 2010 B40 with a swim deck operated with twin rams. These have packed up (not the cleverest of designs)
and as they retail for £1k a pop replacing them is not cheap.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, what alternatives are suggested?

The obvious solution is a couple of bits of string but I think they look tatty.

I have a 2009 Bav 38 ( manufactured in Dec 2009, launched Feb 2010) and the bathing platform seems to be the same moulding as you have.

The Platform was designed for hydraulic rams but as these didn't work in previous models it has been replaced with a spring lift platform. It is very neatly set up. I still have the flap over the emergency tiller like you have, but in my case, it does nothing but collect dust.

I'm sure SVB should be able to supply the change over parts required.

There is one line from the platform to a release lever on the boat. By pulling the release lever end, it unlocks the platform and then you gently push it down. When raising, you gently raise the platform with the line. The spring counteracts most of the force.

Installation of the parts appears straight forward.

If you can get the parts, I'll email photos of the set up for you to install.

Thanks for the replies.

The rams in my case are not hydraulic but a linear screw type drive. Supposedly sealed but salt water
still gets in.

Craig - I'd be interested in seeing the photos so I can better visualise the setup which sounds really good.

2009 B40 also had the same problem. The rams would get out of synchronisation and the controller would stop them. Solved the problem by placing the rams/screws in a safe place away from salt water and the vessel and replaced them with a pulley system. It is a single line with 4:1 purchase on each side, with a slide bolt on each side to secure it when raised. Raises and lowers the platform easily.
