WIFI Security Cameras
« on: January 21 2020, 21:40 »
Hi,

Has anyone installed WIFI cameras on their boat and if so do you need an on board Router or will the marina WIFI work? It only needs to work while the boat is in it's home slip.

Thanks,
Doug

It seems to me that the marina wi fi would work, although that may be an easier target to hack than one of your own that you could protect more fully.  But probably not worth the effort.  Most boat thieves are opportunists in the moment.

I picked up a new Wyze camera for $25 on Amazon last week.  It connects to WiFi and the app allows me to view it from anywhere on the Internet.  It works at home, but I haven't been successful at the marina.  It needs 2.4GHz WiFi to work.  My marina may be 5 GHz only.  I will try it again soon though.  The Wyze camera can send alerts for both sound and motion.  It would hear my bilge alarm go off and send me a notification.
