Bow thruster for Bavaria 38 Ocean
« on: January 13 2020, 22:49 »
Hi everyone

I have a 1997 Bavaria 38 Ocean and wish to install a bow thruster.
I'm looking for anyone who has previously completed this.
I don't think I want it below the boat but by fitting a tube through the void aft of the forward water tank.
Where have you fitted the battery? How powerful does it need to be?
What makes are recommended?
Thanks in advance
Adam

I have a Side Power SE 100/185 T on my B46 Cruiser (2005) and fitted it 3 years ago. Was a lot of work, and does fine until today without any problems. Battery is located next to thruster motor and charged from B2B Charger from house batteries.  Look at www.side-power.com , there are some technical guides, which thruster to choose for your boat and for the installation details for the tunnel, which seem to be practical for all makes.
On Youtube there are some excellent videos for installing the thruster.

On our 2001 B40 we have Lewmar 185TT thruster, but can't recall the power rating by heart. Thruster operates on massive battery bank located under saloon settee, with some hefty cabling.

The benefit is that I can use the same battery bank for all my loads, including inverter as well.
