2002 Bav 40 bulkhead thickness
« on: November 16 2019, 22:05 »
In a bid for movie nights on board with the kids, we are fitting a television on the main bulkhead, with a bracket that it can swivel out.

I figured the bulkheads were 12mm/14mm ply? I'd prefer to bolt it through, but that would involve drilling into the heads, so I figured six beefy self tappers would do the job well enough, ground down to the correct length.

Is 12mm the correct thickness of that bulkhead?

Yes, use No 8 or 10 stainless pan head screws with a suitable pilot hole. The thickness of the bracket plate will make sure the screw does not break through but only drill your pilot hole 15mm.

If you're using a 'swing out' TV bracket best to make sure you can secure the TV firmly against the bulkhead when underway, as the heavy TV could cause a lot of damage if it's allowed to get loose and swing about in a seaway, not least to itself........Bill

Thanks Bill, yes we are using a bracket with a substantial locking mechanism.

Thanks for all the tips!
