Sail drive 120 seal details wanted
« on: November 12 2019, 07:18 »
I am preparing to loft and hold in order to change the shaft seals and am sourcing the appropriate kit.

Can anybody advise the size and detail of the seals?

Thanks

You can get a seal kit which includes the gaskets either from Volvo or Keyparts. You need to specify exactly which drive you have. Also get a replacement drain plug and of course new oil.

Bit of a challenge doing the job with a lift and hold as if anything goes wrong you might not be able to put the boat back in the water. Although a straightforward job  best done without time pressures, particularly if you have never done it before.

Seals and o rings all ordered .... I’m going for the three because I know the shaft is scored.

Google Volvo saildrive shaft repairs and you will find links to using SKF Speedi Sleeves to repair scored shafts. Makes sense while you have it apart to do this if the shaft really is worn.

Thanks I saw these .... that’s my next time plan !

This time using the 3 x 6mm seals will put the lips on fresh shaft

Thanks Geoff job done on one tide new oil in and all seems ok so far!

You could see the oil running out of the seals around the shaft that was woron so new seal/shaft contact points should provide a solution.
