Top Hatch Rubbing stakes

Hi There

On my Bavaria 34 (2001) there is two wear rubbing stakes on the top sliding hatch for going down into the cabin does anyone know what they are called and where I could get replacement ones!!

I don’t know what they are called either, maybe bearing runners, but on my B36(2002) they appear to be made from some kind of soft(ish) plastic, of lesser hardness than the acrylic companionway sliding hatch. They have countersunk holes for the securing screws, and of a depth such that the tops of the screws cannot scratch the sliding hatch.
I would suggest that you take one of them off to use as a sample, and that you go and visit one of the plastics firms on one or other nearby industrial estate to ask them to provide you with two narrow strips of a similar plastic of suitable dimensions, and that you then re-affix these new strips into place, and hopefully you will be able to do it all yourself.

I'm interested that yours are softer than the hatch, mine are definitely harder and buffed-up shiny.

Mine are the same , worn and broken at the aft end.  I assumed they are some sort of PTFE.   I'll be interested in wghat can be found.

Here's a suggestion (while not a replacement solution); a friend had a similar problem on his Catalina and used this product - Nylo tape. https://www.rockler.com/nylo-tape-friction-free-drawer-slide-tape.  We used it on my old boat, too and it worked like a charm.  It's a stiffer tape than you might assume.  If you are in EU zone, I hope you can find it at a woodworking outlet similar to Rockler, or search online.  Perhaps Rockler will deliver overseas.  They sell quality products.  I highly recommend this as a temporary, if not, permanent solution.

They are almost certainly HDPE strips.  High Density Polyethylene. The same stuff that plastic cutting boards are made of. It is somewhat low friction but also hard wearing.

As suggested try a local plastics supplier and get some strips in the right dimensions.

Mine too are showing signs of breaking down, but have looked like that for several years now without actually getting any worse. Apart from a visual check during a periodic clean out of the gutter that runs alongside each of them, they show some signs of cracking in way of the screw holes, but otherwise have remained in place.

With the winter lift out fast approaching I’m reluctant to start anything just now, but once in the cradle, and so long as it’s not going to be too difficult to get to the last screws out (they will be ones still under the hatch when its pushed as far as it will go into the hatch garage), I’ll lift one off. Then I’ll take it to my friendly plastics manufacturing firm and ask them for an opinion on what they are made of, and the important bit about what they would charge to make new ones of the same dimensions and complete with correctly spaced and countersunk holes.

If no one has tried them so far, it might be worth contacting the importer, Clipper Marine in the UK., as they carry a range of Bavaria replacement parts.

My B37 (2006) has stainless steel slides - they work perfectly well

I had a quick look at the “rubbing strakes” on my boat last evening after arriving onboard, and came to the conclusion that they must extend most if not all of the way under the hatch garage.

Artemis research at 1460mm in length confirms they do, and having looked once before at removing the hatch garage in order to gain access to the space under it, well I’m not even going to try. The rubbing strakes on my boat just have the occasional crack across in way of the securing screws, so I think best to leave them alone.

I've removed the hatch several time the most difficult is the car track the rest was a doddle that was to install a liferaft cradle

I need to remove mine and clean it, the tracks fill with water when it rains and has quite a collection of algae and other gunk.
