Any generic diesel tachometer taking signal from alternator should work. That is what was my plan, but instead I found out that one automatic fuse had blown causing only tacho to fail.

My tachometer has died as well.  I noticed last month that is was reading very low, despite engine rpms being high.  The gauge has some serious condensation in it now and will not function at all.  The hour meter is no longer functioning either.  I may have to investigate the fuse.  Is it located behind the panel or closer to the engine itself?

If I have to replace the gauge, I see Volvo wants $478.00 for one.  I can't imagine what the whole panel would go for...

The automatic fuses I am referring to were located close to The alternator or a small distribution box o the back Port side of our MD22L engine.

A generic diesel tachometer taking signal from alternator should be well below 100eur even from boat chandler.

If it ends up being the tacho - a fitting generic tacho with hour meter does not seem unreasonably priced at https://www.parts4engines.com/volvo-penta-digital-tachometer-hour-meter/ 73,xx€

Yes, that model is reasonably priced.  There's not a lot of technology going on inside.  But it doesn't say Volvo on it anywhere... LOL
