Bulkhead squeak
« on: September 02 2018, 01:38 »
Hi All
I have a Bavaria 33 cruiser 2005 model. The problem I have is a very bad squeak around the bulkhead at the companion way. JUst wondering if anyone has the same problem.

Ha ha ha - we ALL have the same problem! Bavs are very squeaky boats...  ;)

Welcome to the forum, Cabtrack; if you search for noisy / squeaky bulkheads, you should find some stuff about how they're built and why they squeak (and how to quieten them down a bit).

In my Bav 38 2003 I did all the edges in both back cabins with epoxy and fabric. Now the walls can't move to each other anymore and the noise is gone. I had the problem especially when at anchour and the waves coming from the side.

Thanks for your replies MarkTheBike and Spirit of Mary I shall be epoxying and taping all the joins as the squeaking is unbearable at anchor rolling beam to beam.

Quite often it can be the door frames.  Remove them and refit them with some epoxy.  Other than that, as the others have said, go round and remove the silicone sealant and replace with epoxy/glass bubbles fillets.

If it’s any consolation it’s not just Bavs. Some friends of ours have. Beneteau 42 which creaks so badly that they will actually abandon it even in a marina and go and find a cheap hotel. Med. based. Still love the boat.

The squeaks have be eradicated. I now have a squeak free Bavaria 33 cruiser. West epoxy did the trick around the bulkhead at the companionway.

Works every time. Well done.
