New plastic "wet Exhaust" I put in my 2010 Bav 38 had same size hose, just needed to shorten hose to fit.

It looks like your wet exhaust is the same as mine that corroded through the stainless steel end.

Plastic exhaust silencer from Force 4 cost under £60; came with inlet and out let fitted with tapered ends so it would fit a range of different size exhaust hoses. It’s been in place for about two years so far and unlike the Volvo exhaust silencers, it won’t corrode.

I bought a Vetus yesterday (120 euros) after the second (and final) failure of the original Volvo one for my B37 2006. Things to note:
    • The exhaust hose on my D1-30 engine is 45mm
    • The exhaust hose was too short for a 1-for-1 change and I had to purchase a replacement (short length from engine)
    • The Vetus needs to be supported - I intend to put a shelf and restraints in place
    • As the hose has been removed from the swan neck at the back of the engine it is worth removing and cleaning that too
    • The exhaust hose does not want to come off the swan neck so have at least three weetabix  >:( >:D

Have found that where hoses are reluctant to come off a hose tail, that use of a thin flat screwdriver to lift part of the end of the hose followed by a squirt of WD40 into the gap. Then a cup of coffee while the oil does its trick followed by a good twist of the hose and and more often than not the hose then comes off quite easily. Not every time, but often enough to want to use the same method again.

I replaced my Volvo wet exhaust with a plastic vetus type about 2 years ago.

I used the "jubilee" clips ( Hose clamps) from the Volvo silencer to secure the Vetus to the side of the engine compartment.

To stop the vibration ( small movement) I then squirted polyurethane expanding foam underneath to form a platform rather than build a shelf. It has all worked well ever since.

OK, I will also use the recovered jubilee clips but the floor is not flat so need the shelf. I intend to use a strip of 'noise reducing' material same as for engine compartment on the side and bottom.

Thanks haha

Might be a silly question but I assume I’m ok just putting the new one in dry and turning the engine on? I don’t need to pre fill it or anything do I?

Not a silly question if you don’t know or are unsure, but yes, that’s right. Fit it dry, connect the hoses, one from engine to silencer and one from silencer to exhaust overboard outlet. When it’s all secure and your saildrive water inlet valve open, start your engine and water flow overboard will start within a few seconds. Yes, it will take marginally longer for water to get from the engine to the exhaust overboard the first time you use it after fitting the replacement silencer, but thereafter it will be the same as before. If water should not appear within, I’d say ten seconds, then it’s likely something has been forgotten and at which point you should stop your engine and go and look for whatever has been forgotten. Assuming water flow appears as normal, then go and check the entire exhaust system to make sure your connections are not leaking water. Blue absorbent tissue paper spread under and around the exhaust hose and silencer is particularly good at showing up any water leaks. Lastly give the engine a run for twenty or thirty minutes and check again for leaks. It should be all secure, but if not then make the necessary adjustments to stop the leak, and check again. Once you are happy then that’s it until you next put to sea when you should carry out further periodic checks, especially if your engine is likely to be run for lengthy periods.

Fitted mine yesterday and did exactly as Salty has said above - all fine. No noticeable change in engine noise either. Just need to so some sea trials now  :)

Thanks all fitted fine, little tight for space but other than that was fairly straight forward

Little hint for others is to take the intake off first and cup the inlet with your hands and blow hard, gets all the water out or at least 90% of it :)
