Interesting that he recommends using butyl tape for bedding rail stanchion bases. Today is the first time I’ve seen such recommendation, but two years back I rebedded all of my deck stanchions and decided to use butyl tape because I already had some, given to me by my father some twenty odd years ago, and it’s worked a treat. No stanchion base water leaks since using the stuff, so I’m sold on using it for any external areas that need such sealing.
