Davits B37 2015

HI peeps.

Just wondering if anyone has fitted davits to a Bavaria cruiser 37. Through the top side of the "tail gate" swim platform. I have seen them fitted to a similar boat.
The tail gate hinge is good for over 200 Kgs Is the tailgate completely hollow?

I would have to make up some semi circular reinforcement plates and put them through the holes cut and drill and tap them M8 to bolt the davit mounting cup into. 

There just is not another place on the stern of Impavidus that we can mount them. Obviously we would get the removable ones.  I dont want the dingy on the fore deck and I dont want it as a drogue!

Our new aluminium floor dingy is only 40 or so Kgs (when we get it in April) so the 130 Kg ones from yacht shop will be ideal.

Interested to know if anyone has done this mod yet?
Edit; just found the boat that I saw them on . Its a 36 in Plymouth. But hes cut through the transom to put the backing plates in............

Just a thought, my solution was to take the easy way out and use existing parts of boat by putting a 2 fold purchase on the back stay and 2 x ring bolts in the transom plus a webbing sling and plastic rollers over ladder (on my boat.)

I have had this for 9 years and it works fine, my wife can pull it up and i use it for engine lowering and hoist.  if I am transiting in bad weather I take the dinghy in and stow it under forward bunk through hatch I put in it.

Odysseus, yes thats a good solution that we used on Renovatio our last Bavaria. I still have the webbing we used, I have 50mtrs of it that I am going to make Jackstays out of. (Bavaria did not come with them and we have been using lines fore and aft).

I want to get the rib up nice and high, with the davits I can get the top of the tubes level with the push pit.

I been thinking about how I can transfer the compression force and bending moment at the base of the Davit arms. I think I  come up with an Idea that will solve the problem.

Basically I can make two L shaped plates that wrap over the transom and down the back (on to what is the platform floor) If I make them from 8mm Stainless with cambered edges they will not be a toe stubber. They can then be fixed through on the top and on the floor side. The rear fixings will be in shear and the top fixings will be in compression/tension with the load. It will spread the load more evenly. I am going to play with design this afternoon. I'll post it up when I have something.
