Bimini and Dodger
« on: January 02 2018, 19:31 »
Hello, I am looking for a Bimini and spray dodger for my 2014 Bavaria 37 Cruiser. I'm hoping to have them made, then I can just bolt them on. Can anyone help me?

Thank you,
Marty

Depends on where you are located. It is usual to have these individually made by a specialist and it is best to have it done by somebody locally who can measure up, discuss the detailed design with you then make it and fit it.

However if you are in the UK suggest you contact Tecsew in Gosport as they make all the canvas work for Clipper Marine so have all the patterns for all models of Bavaria. They use a 3D computer design system so can make changes for you from the standard if you want. Very best quality material and workmanship.

Do not be tempted by the Bavaria factory canvas work as it is not good quality.

I don't know who is making the factory supplied biminis and dodgers for Bavaria are now, but Nautitech sadler ( I think they are a swiss company) supplied my gear when I purchased the boat new in 2010. I found the quality of work was good, the canvas still looks as new after 8 years but the clears need replacing every 5 to 6 years. Also the zips used ( small blue plastic ) deteriorate if left in the sun. I replaced the zips after 5 years with a large white plastic type and they appear to be more robust and don't jam as easily.

The problem you have, if you don't go through one of the Bavaria dealers is that it will be a one off job, measuring the frame, fabricating the steel work, then getting the canvas done. The shape for the dodger is a bit complicated.

C&J Marine have also done a fair few Bavaria Bimini's spray hoods, cockpit covers etc,

they make bespoke ones but have made a fair few for Bavaria in their portfolio, which means they're kinda off the shelf now, i was too searching for a bimini and these were front runners, i havent made a purchase yet but most likely will in the spring as they were very helpful

^^ not sure if thats your exact boat - best to call them

there is also Tecsew as mentioned above.

I looked at the factory ones when i bought my new 33 in 2015. Not as good quality or design as the ones made by Tecsew for the UK market - but cheaper.

In my view it is worth paying the extra to get the superior fabric and particularly the thread used by specialists - plus you can have customised features if you want. For example I had extra handholds and stowage pockets fitted. Tecsew also made a matching full cockpit cover for the boat.

Biminis in particular are best custom made as you can have extra side panels and a back panel for example added.

I contacted Tecsew after having trouble finding a local person in wales who could design and fabricate a Bimini for Bav 42. C&j said they wouldn’t come to wales to fit despite me saying I would pay the travel expenses. Tecsew had custom templates and built the Bimini and came to wales and fitted with no problems.  Very happy with quality and service.  Give them a call.
