Rocna on Bavaria 37 (2007)
« on: September 19 2017, 11:21 »
Hi,
so glad the forum is back up, thanks for that!

We consider to buy a Rocna for our Bavaria 37 (2007) and were wondering if there are any experiences on this boat with the Rocna
- does it fit without modifications (to roller, anchor locker lid, ...) ?
- is the 15kg sufficient for the 37 ??

Thanks Noelio, I saw that on the internet before posting.
But I was wondering if anybody has actual experiences both fitting and using the ROCNA on a 2005-2007 Bavaria 37.

Is that still a J&J design boat? If so, here: http://kb.rocna.com/kb/Bavaria_37_Cruiser

If not, worst case you'll have to make the Rocna cardboard templates. I've fitted one size up from the recommended, as we like to anchor a lot and it makes me sleep better at night. Very pleased with its setting and holding, except in weed where it can struggle to set.

Yes there is a B37 of that vintage in our marina.  he put a 15kg Rocna on this season and it fitted perfectly.  Put it on same day he headed off to Sillies.

I did a blog post about this! We bought the original Rocna (with roll bar) and it did not fit at all. We'd need to have modified the bow roller. Instead, we got the Rocna 'Vulcan' and it not only fit perfectly, it also holds extremely well! We are in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and have anchored 50+ times and it has held fantastically each time and sets quick! http://sailingwithbloom.com/blooms-anchor-dilemna-fitting-a-rocna-on-a-bavaria/

I our Marina in Spain there was a 37 with a Rocna. I think 20 kg. It fitted but the nav light reflects on the roll bar. Maybe spraying the bar with matte black may help. I use a Rocna 20 on my Bav 38 2003. To be able to close the locker I needed to drill an extra hole in the shank to lock the shank in a lower position and pull the anchour further in then can be done by the windlass. On my boat also the nav light reflects on the bar, but I do very few night sailing.

FYI regarding the Rocna original not fitting and drilling an extra hole in the shank- we inquired with Rocna about this and it voids your warranty with them if you do so. I really recommend the Rocna Vulcan because of this. If you look at the blog post I did in the link above (my previous post) You can see how the Rocna original fits and then how the Rocna Vulcan fits. Amazing difference.

I have a rocna on my 36 and it fits by pulling tight under pin and chain around windlass

I have a rocna 15kg on my B37 (2006) as a replacement for the CQR which was unreliable. Although the rocna fits without any adjustments to be made, the shaft of the anchor is short so that the balance is not right - biased toward the front. As a consequence it will not sit un-secured in the bow roller. I have made a quick-release catch on a safety line which I use to hold onto the chain prior to deployment of the anchor. The other issue is that it is also liable to slip off the roller in lumpy water when recovering. However, its holding is something else and I am very pleased with it. I don't have a windlass as the shelf in the anchor locker is too small to take one and a deck-mount is not desirable.
