LOGGING IN

Despite ticking the box asking to be kept logged in . I have to login in each time. Does anyone know why .

Probably be your computer have you in settings ticked the box to save passwords!

... and does your browser clear cookies when it's shut down?

Yes I did tick the box but not sure if it clears browser when shut down . Where would I look

Not sure if you can do it in Chrome but in Explorer you do it in 'settings' - see attached

...which browser do you use, Tony? On Windows, Linux, Android or Apple? (I think they are handled differently depending on which).
