I have been having problems with the time taken to get a "fix" with my C80 system.
No help off Raytheon so purchased antenna off ebay. GROMATICS Direct. VERY HELPFUL MAN.
Arrived quick. Fitted. And it all works fine. Cost £35.

Does that antenna interface with seatalk 1?

A little known secret of the standard RayMarine antenna is that it has an internal battery that holds info from the last fix to speed up the fix on the next restart. I had the same problem you describe on my C80 after about 5 years of problem free use until I replaced this battery. It's not a normal user serviceable thing, but if you Google it you'll fine info on how to break down the antenna to get at it....

Could that be the problem you had?

Lots people say there is a battery but this one does not have one. And yes it is sea talk. It's a dumb antenna.

Was the original antenna a raystar 120, 125 or 130?  I have a 125 and I believe it has a battery that maintains last gps fix when the system de-powers allowing a rapid hot re-start rather than a very slow cold start. I was experiencing slowing re-starts getting No-Fix message for up to 15 mins but after simply taking the antenna off the rail, disconnecting the cable and reconnecting it again, problem solved.  I was on verge of opening her up to try a battery swap...believe its a standard CR2035.   I was told that the battery might actually be soldered in place...anybody know if this is likely?

You're right that it's a standard battery (CR2032) and to answer your question, no the battery is not soldered in. As noted in my prior post above, I had thus same problem on my RayStar and it was solved with a new battery.

The job takes about 15 minutes and there are descriptions on the Internet on how to do it. Here is one of them:
