Additional central mooring cleat

Hello, I own a 39 Cruiser and I'd like to add the middle boat cleats. Did anybody do this job?

I add those some years ago.

There will probably be an aluminium plate bonded in underneath the deck where the cleat goes. so you need to drill and tap to suit the mounting screws. Make sure you seal the cleat and use Duralec on the screw threads to reduce the chances of corrosion.

No. You won't have to through bolt it. As I said above there will be an aluminium plate boded into the deck in the raised area where the cleat goes. You can check its location by using one of those devices used to find cables in walls. Drill and tap (think they will be M8 for that size cleat) and use set screws.

Quite a easy to install
Need not  any aluminium plate search.
Those are there. As well possible to see inside of the boat.
Just remove those two panel top of the locker.  (picture yellow cleat.PDF or cleat_install.jpg)

I used original cleats.
Those are "bolt" models.
My opinion. It is better use bolts instead of screws. 

Starboard.
Just drill holes. And install cleats.

Port side. Little bit more complicated.
Toilet locker roof prevent to install nuts. (Or it is very difficult..)
I just drilled about 1" holes to the roof. (green)  Via those holes it was easy to use washers and nuts.
When you drill cleat holes itself. Use long drill. And make first 8mm holes to the locker roof.
After that increase those from inside.  For example to 1"
Later panel will cover the holes.

1" hole.  I used hole drill and ordinary small ratchet wrench.

have also done this and prefer to drill out the hole in the embedded aluminium plate and use stainless washer and stainless nylock nut on the underside... of course with tefgel and use sikaflex to seal (not silicone).

I concur with Anthony on this.

Access on my B38 2004 was not too difficult so I bolted right through, sealed with sikaflex and load spread with large ss washers.

Did it 2 years ago.
On my boat, B36 2002, Bavaria didn't use stainless screws to hold the locker back panels so they were rotten. Some might be difficult to remove without damaging a bit the panels.
