Installing new rubber stern bumper strip.

Hi all,

I have a new rubber bumper strip to fit to the rear of my B49.

What should I use to fix it in place?

Has anyone installed the strip while in the water, in a marina?

The original strip had debonded allowing water and dirt between the rubber and the hull in a couple of places, which made it debonded more. I had the boat yard remove and reinstall it while out of the water, but it just debonded again after a couple of months.

So have bought a new strip.

Yes, recently reinstalled me stern rubber, whilst boat was in the water.
Used about 8x (300ml) tubes of Sika 291 marine adhesive.
Biggest job was cleaning old adhesive off boat & inside of the rubber, and preparing surfaces.
After mechanically removing old sealant, used a xylene based product to clean & prepare surfaced.
Started at the centre, using the Stainless steel u bracket, and applied sealant to the inside of the rubber, before installing one half at a time.
You will need to have some masking tape handy to keep the rubber stretched whilst the sealant hardens, to prevent the rubber from shrinking away form the gunwhale end cap.
It looks more daunting than it really is.

It's a long time ago now, but I'm sure that was the stuff we used to use on oil tankers at sea in the sixties, seventies and eighties for calibrating our explosimeters which were then used for flammable gas detection and measurement. From those readings and separately from an oxygen analyser we were able to decide whether an emptied and cleaned cargo tank, for example, was safe for entry.
