I noticed on some old topics that several people have had problems with rust on the keel joints of their new boats. It seems that they have been advised that the problem is caused because the hull flexes and causes a crack in the epoxy coating. This is true and it has happened on my New (2015)Vision 42 which had only been in the water for 5 months. The top 3 to 4 inches all the way round the keel has had the epoxy coating crack away and exposed the iron. Also there is significant rust around the leading edge of the keel joint.
The problem is that the epoxy is not flexible and when the boat is sailed the flexing cracks the epoxy coating at the joint of the
Keel/hull. Epoxy is NOT the coating recommended by Bavaria. It is Zinc Powder Paint .
There is a work instruction which Bavaria shows how to attach and prime the keel and gives the Torque settings for the keel bolts. This should be 530 Nm on the Cruiser 56 and 363Nm on all other boats
