Fridge Condensation
« on: March 11 2016, 04:00 »
Hi
I am the owner of a 42ft Vision 2013.
The refrigeration unit has 2 lift up hatches and 2 front doors. If I am away from yacht for 2 weeks or more...fridge is running. I have at least 1/2 bucket of water on the floor of fridge. As there is NO drain plug, I am continually bailing out water from the heavy condensation.
Has anyone else had this problem...and why no drain plug?
P.S I am in Australia with fairly hot and humid conditions
John

Sounds to me like the door and hatch seals are leaking badly John, because once they are all shut and you are away from the boat, there should be no more air getting inside the fridge. What moisture remains in the air within will condense, and that should be it until you next open the fridge door/hatch. So I'd start looking at the seals to make sure that they are touching all the way round, and if not, it could be that one of the doors or hatches is slightly warped, thereby allowing the fridge to breathe and draw in moist air.

Hi
I have the same problem in my Bav 41 even when the fridge is not working!.
I put this phenomenon in a this forum and got several responses that rain water was leaking into the fridge. Having looked as the construction I cannot see where that could be coming from.
My boat is in Sydney. Over a month I collect about 500mls of fresh water.
I think the only two sources are rain and the galley pipe work.
I will be doing some more investigation and I find anything I will make a post. I would be glad to hear of anything you find.
Regards

Hi John and Aquapore  (singling you both out as I am Australian as well),

If you need seals, Bunnings  and Whitworth sell rolls of varying thickness.
