Companionway step replacement insets
« on: December 18 2015, 18:02 »
Hi

I am renovating the companionway steps on my 2001 Bav 34 and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get replacement aluminium insets as the originals are a bit tatty! It would set off the newly varnished woodwork if I could source replacement treads. I am sure someone else must have done this.

Thanks in advance

Bert

Please document the process with plenty of photos :)

As for the steps, no idea, but it looks like a pretty standard aluminium extrusion on mine (2001 Ocean 40, so probably same parts). A search for "aluminium step nosing" brings up a myriad different profiles. Good luck!

Hi

I got fed up trying to source replacements ( none seemed to have the right overhang) so I removed the originals, cleaned them up, painted them with etch primer the sprayed them with Aluminium paint. Looks great but not sure how long it will last but it isn't a big chore to redo them in a year or so. :kewl
