Air Filter on Bavaria 30
« on: August 11 2015, 12:09 »
Anyone changed the air filter on a Bavaria 30 2007 (Volvo D1-20)?  The filter housing appears to be jammed up against the wooden bulkhead (forward of rear cabin) so tricky to get at rear attachment nut and to then remove the housing.  I may be missing something, so any help gratefully received.  Chris

Hi, on my previous boat, a B30C 2006 with D1-20, I could remove the nut from the rear cabin, by removing the wooden plate below the bed for access.
At the end, I did not change the air filter, it was not dirty, the air intake remains clean.

I changed mine a couple of years ago (2009 B31 so essentially the same boat). You're not missing anything...it's really tough to do and I recall going at that nut "blind", by feel only, and in a very contorted position. Sliding the filter off is similarly tough and requires and angled pull with lateral torque.

The engine is way too tight a fit, which causes me angst when contemplating a possible sail drive gasket change down the road...

Good luck!
