Windows 10 ISO Released & Update Troubleshooting
« on: July 29 2015, 07:47 »
Some people, like me, need an ISO of Windows 10 to upgrade a PC on a 3G or other metered connection.

Microsoft have now released the ISO:
Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File)
Note that the DVD created from this is should be run from Windows, not booted.
You should first use this for an upgrade, not a clean install, you can then do a clean install if you wish:
Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool

Regarding clean installs, from the above page (my bold):

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer.

If you are using the normal Windows Update route
You may find an error in your Windows Update history saying it has failed (Error code 80240020, see attachment), try this:

Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ and rename or move the Download folder
Open an elevated Command Prompt and type this command: wuauclt.exe /updatenow
[To open an elevated Command Prompt, go to Start, type cmd then right click and select Run as administrator]
