Changing the anchor on my 39c 2007 sailboat
« on: October 09 2020, 17:04 »
Hello.

I want to change my CQR. I would like to have a manson supreme or rocna instead of it. Is there anyone out there changed the anchor of a Bavaria 39C 2007? What I am concerned about is that the new anchor might not fit well. I don't want to be in that situation where I would have to cut or drill things and have a not very satisfying outcome in terms of the looks.

Or would you recommend another anchor that fits well and easy? What I know is that I want to upgrade my anchor to a better design because I think it would make a difference.

Thank you!!

A Delta will fit and much better than the copy CQR, but half the price of a Rocna). Bavaria now fit these as standard. Rocna have template measurements on their website which will allow you to make up a template to try on your roller.

We have a 20kg Spade on our 2006 B39. Fits fine. It’s a brilliant anchor and if I lost it I’d buy another without hesitation. We’re in Greece so one way or another use the anchor most nights.
You’ll notice a huge improvement from your CQR.
Personally I wouldn’t bother with a Delta- there are much better NG anchors available.

The original CQR  on our Bav30 dragged once too many times so I replaced it with a 20kg Rocna.  Now it doesn’t drag.

As the Rocna fitted our smaller boat, it should be OK on yours.  You can download a template from the Rocna website to print a full size diagram of their anchors which you can use to make a cardboard cut-out to check it fits.  The download is part of the way down here…  https://rocna.com/fitment-guide/

I replaced the cheap imitation of a CQR that came with the boat for a Delta (€200) and never regretted the decision. It fits, self launches and recovers perfectly without any need to leave the cockpit except, of course, to open and close the forward anchor locker door!

I own a 2001 Bavaria 42 and changed from a plough to a ROCNA 25kg anchor 8 years ago. Had a few issues with the plough but since the change have slept soundly every night I have deployed the ROCNA. In that time I have cruised extensively up and down the East Coast of Australia from Tasmania to the Whitsunday Islands. The ROCNA fitted my bow roller without any modifications. ROCNA sizing indicated a 20kg would do but using a belts and braces approach went for the next size up. In conjunction with the anchor I have 85 metres of 10mm chain.
