Door blockers on the cabin doors...
« on: August 05 2020, 21:34 »
Hello,
We do not have door "blockers" on the cabin doors of our bavaria 42 vision. Have you had any installed? and if so, what model did you set?
Thank you for your feedback.

I've added a magnetic door stop on my forecabin door.

Me too, made in china. It corroded away in 2 seasons.

You can get solid brass door hooks in varying lengths from your local hardware store, or they might even have stainless. Or you can use a length of bungee cord as I have done for the last ten years. One of them is just beginning to show signs of internal breakdown after all that time, but has otherwise worked well except on odd occasions when the weather has been very bad, and then I shut the doors.

And the bungee cord won't rattle when the boat rolls  ;D

Nautor used to fit something like these for (at least around 1980) Swans (except stainless): https://www.locksetsonly.com/baldwin-0950-140-polished-nickel-2-5-swivel-cabin-door-hook.html
The idea is that the extra joint lessens the rattle significantly.

X-yachts fit, or at least used to fit, door catches that hook to the door by just pushing the door against the catch. With a one minute googling I could not find this type but the idea is the same as in here: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/33014141959.html

=> I much prefer the latter type of solution over hooks that need manual setup.

There's not much to set up with a bungee cord

We have a setup like that. I hate it. The bungee cord is always in my way. But I don't seem to hate it enough to do something about it 😀

We have the double-jointed Nautor types (fitted by Bavaria) and they do rattle a bit. Bit of tape around or a flip-flop jammed behind the door fixes it. Wouldn't recommend them for that reason though. The X-Yachts ones look a bit smarter and less fiddly to use.

I could move it higher up to get it out of the way, there is a grab rail just above the line of lockers and a screw in hook could be fitted to the upper part of the door.  I understand your point, but the bungee cord hasn't upset me yet, so for the time being I'm happy to leave it. All these things are of course subject always  to personal preference.

My 33 has a mast pillar at the end of the table which lines up nicely with the door when it is open. A bungee sail tie looped around one door handle, round the pillar and onto the other door handle works well.

We have these plastic catches fitted by PO which work well and don't rattle. They are available at caravan accessory shops but not quite as nice looking as a polished brass or SS fitting.
