Leaking Jabsco Manual toilet
« on: June 25 2020, 05:52 »
HI All,
A couple of weeks ago i  replaced the top valve gasket and the joker valve of the Jabsco maual toilet.
Now i am noticing water  leaking from the pump assembly unit, when i pump water into the bowl. The leaking water is clean seawater.

Any ideas why, and what needs to  be done to stop this leak?

I have the same issue, leaking from shaft seal, sea water only. If i switch to simplex pumping no more leak.

I’m not understanding exactly where is leaking however you say you just changed 2items.
I’ve always had Jabsco manual flush toilets on various boats and my experience is when you service them buy original full service kits and replace every single part from top to bottom. Whenever I tried to take short cuts I had to redo the job!
Good luck!

I agree that if you go into the trouble of dismantling the pump, purchase the full kit and replace everything.
Furthermore - I noticed that the price of a complete pump compared to the full kit is not much higher (at least that what it was in Greece where I made the purchase when my pump failed) so I also bought a complete pump. I know now that if I have to service the pump again I can replace it completely and work on the defective one at my own pace.

Can't tell where it's leaking from based on your description. We carry a complete pump as a spare, so we can just swap it over when it makes trouble. Then I can rebuild the other as new spare in my own time. Would recommend this.

Maybe it's only the upper gasket leaking. Dissamble it once more and be very careful when putting the gasket really in the right place. I had this problem several times and it took me plenty of minutes to get it tight.

No need to replace the pump, just reseat the top cover. Be careful with the screws. They are not selftappers but need to be located in the thread before screwing down. You can easily cross thread them and not tighten down properly against the gasket to provide the seal.
