D1-30 Bav39 Filters
« on: September 25 2018, 18:31 »
Hi everyone,
I'm starting to think about winterisation for the first time. I was looking at the filters, oil, and two(?) fuel filters.
The ones fitted don't look standard. So the question is, does anyone have type numbers that I can go shopping in Greece with for the oil and primary / secondary fuel filters.

The boat is a 2008 vintage if that makes a difference.

  Many thanks.

Volvo part no for the oil filter is 3840525, for the secondary fuel filter (engine mounted) is 861477.  Go along to most Greek chandlers with those numbers and they’ll probably sell you a Volvo branded filter.  No idea how you’d get on trying to get an aftermarket filter, which will be lots cheaper.
Worth taking filters out with you from UK as they can be had for a fraction of the Volvo branded ones from say https://www.inlinefilters.co.uk/ .

Thanks Rampage, I'll just grab an oil filter for now and the fuel can wait till next year and cheaper variants

Alternatives to the Volvo filters:
OILFILTER  VP nr. 3840525: Mann W68-3/W67-2, AMC SO-801, Fram PH2951, Fram PH10411.
DIESELFILTER vp nr. 861477: Mann WK 811/86, Fleetguard FF5114, Fram P4178.

In The Netherlands the prices of the alternatives are about 1/3 of the Volvo price.

I have the information from members of the Dutch Bavaria Sailing Club so use on your own risk.
The filters seem to be the same size for engine types MD2030, MD2040, D1-30, D2-40, D2-55 and D2-75

Ok, now i'm a little confused.  I have managed to get the number off the oil filter and it appears to be C-207 manufactured by VIC.

This filter doesnt seem to be listed for a D1-30 and yet must be working (i hope!!).  So do I get another C-207 or similar or make the change to a listed filter type?

Hopefully there is someone on the forum who knows this engine and whether the filter type is critical.

              Thanks.

Depends on what you mean by critical. The same size can and screw may contain completely different filtration media inside, so you don't really know whether it is suitable. However, if you stick to the major brands such as Mann, Baldwin, Fram, Fleetguard etc you should be OK. Would be wry of lesser known brands.

Personally I only fit genuine Volvo as I feel the extra £10 or so each year is not a big deal - but I spent a significant part of my early career working for what was then the biggest automotive filter manufacturer in the world! Old habits die hard.

The website Rampage has given, https://www.inlinefilters.co.uk/ , shows the exact specification and the compatible filter brands and types.
Important f.e is that the oil filter has a non return valve integrated so that the oil in the lubrication system cannot flow back to the sump when the engine is not running. When started the pressure is built up much quicker.

Sootydog, are you in Lefkas?  If so, go along to CYS, on the road behind the town quay.  Ask them for a filter for your engine by engine type, ignoring what you’ve currently got fitted.  They’ll sell you either a compatible after market filter (cheaper) or a genuine Volvo part (ouch).
There are so many makers of filters, so many aftermarket brands, all sushi get different numbers to designate their filters that it’s easy to become confused.  It’s difficult to have a conversation with most Greek chandlers because of the language barrier, hence my suggestion to buy a genuine Volvo filter for now and bring a stock of after market ones back with you from UK.

Rampage, currently in Kalamata sitting out the "medicane" . For such a big place I can't seem to find a filter supplier. Looks like I'll order from eBay and get it delivered to the marina.  We are here for the winter so plenty of time.

Iirc there are three or four chandlers in Kalimantan, down in the town near the commercial harbour.  Also seem to recall a couple of marine engineering places in the same area.  If you head 8nto town, there’s a major road which runs round the harbour, couple of 0laces on that road and then a couple on the next road leading back from the sea front/harbour area.  Have a good winter.

Been playing on my tablet and found out a few things that may help people out there.
The link below is for the perkins 100-10 perama engine for Mann filters. That is the Volvo 2020/30/40

You can buy them through Eurocar  Spares

Hope this helps

My filters arrived for my Volvo 2030 engine. They are manufactured  by Mann.

I purchased,
2 x oil filters
2 x fuel filters
Cost  £21.66

Put parts2 clear into Google or EBay.
