Before condemning your prop to the skip, get a second opinion from a specialist company.
DARGLOW LTD in Dorset rebuilt our old Volvo 3-bladed folding prop for about £300. But they first gave us a report on it's condition and whether it was worth having it zero-timed, fortunately it was. All you have to do is send it to them.
It cost substantially less than replacing it. Incidentally ours was 25 years old when it was rebuilt !!

Depending on make you should be able to get new blades at a bout half the price of a new prop. However the pivot pins may also be worn so as suggested worth getting a quote from a specialist such as Darglow.

Spoke to darglow , they dont repair volvo props , you must have been lucky , but worn teeth very difficult or near impossible to repair , cost more than new , confirmed a few places ,

So its down route of replacement blades , strangly volvo agents didnt recognise cast in volvo part nos , however clipper knew the blade size , this threw up a number with volvo agent ,  which on googling back reffered to number on casting , through a swedish agents site , thankgod for google !

Ps if anyone else has this prob i can send link to table.

So in short buying a new set blades is cheapest option by far , i double checked with local trusted engineer who was suprised they had worked at all , only way to see damaged teeth is to remove blades , lucky someone had offered to polish for me 😊

I had always liked the performance of the prop , not sure of only lasting 12 years is good though

Hi Singlefish.
You're correct, Darglow don't repair Volvo props, but they did inspect ours, and having deemed it worth rebuilding they acted as agents to oversee the work by a third party company recommended by them.
I was never informed as to who actually did the work, and never asked, as Darglow were providing the guarantee.
Though if the teeth are shot (ours were fine, it was the wear in the pins that was the problem), well, I guess new blades are the only option.
Only bear in mind that you will not be able to just fit the blades to solve the issue as the existing wear on the pins and hub will require to be machined out to achieve a tight fit.
This means oversized pins and machining out the new blades (horror !!!) to marry the whole lot together. The cost will mount up.
We were faced with the same dilemma and considering a fixed prop before being told repair was possible, which would have been a shame as I also liked the performance of the Volvo prop.
If it's any help I dealt with a bloke called Chris at Darglow, and he took it from there.

Hi hub seems fine pins still good fit , they are not meant to be so tight they need punched out, at worst a new hub not end of world , far cheaper than buggering about oversizing pins reboring etc ,didnt seem to be unusual,to replace blades speaking to various volvo agents , will put together and check with local, engineer .
