Title: New Bavaria Line C
Post by: grossifs on February 08 2018, 18:13
I've just come back from Dusseldorf Boat Exhibition and......WOW!!!! I was really schicked by the new Bavaria C line...I've extensively been in and out to all the model on exhibit and really, as a Bavaria 40 Farr owner I can really say that the Bavaria world has changed!!
Simply another level of boats.. elegant, extremely well refined, high level electronic and sailing hardware, inside a big change in level of furnitures, from hatches (with gas piston control) to the magnetic system to block doors while navigating, the keel fixed with 8 bolt on a 40x40 cm stell plate with 3 cm width.... the ambition series that is a real pure racer... really fantastic...and the price still very very good (from 230 to 255k € VAT included).
Right after the Bavaria I climbed on the Solaris 47...I'm italian and proud if their boat but...after seeing the Bavaria they seemed updated, and the Solaris guy himself said the they were also schocked by the 45...

Anybody else has seen the boats and wants to share opinions?

PS my wife came along..... once in the 45 she turned to me VERY UPSET and told me:" You made be came here because You know that this boat is fantastic!!! DO YOU WANT TO BUY IT????  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've not seen them, but had a look at the website (https://www.bavariayachts.com/en-uk/landingpages/bavaria-c45-c50/bavaria-c45/) just now. As with most current generation boats, I really bounced right off the design. The exterior as well as the interior, even if the dark mahogany look is available again (good), it just looks like the cheap plastic veneered MDF furniture I had in my bedroom when I was a kid :P

They're probably well built, and there are some good features (surprisingly few new ones in the last 17 years though!), but they're clearly aimed at a market that doesn't include me. I hate just about everything there, the twin wheels, the flop-down transom, the vertical bow with far protruding anchor roller, the galley with nowhere to brace, the lack of a navigation table (and the crippled version is facing the wrong way), and the forward owner's cabin with separate loo (if you ever spent some "quality" time fixing a marine toilet, you certainly wouldn't want to maintain two of them).

Speaking of well built, the website tries to talk up the new vacuum infusion process. The reason boat builders are having to switch to this is new regulation that's making hand-laminated polyester increasingly illegal due to potential health hazards for the workers. Last I checked, the vacuum infusion process was tricky and failure prone, although hopefully it has matured somewhat since.

Luckily around 2000 Bavaria designed and built a boat that appealed to me, but none of the current line-up even remotely do.

Amongst fibreglass boats I know about, the German Sirius 35/40DS is probably my favorite at the moment, although easily twice the price of a new C45, so not a fair comparison. But just have a look (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMcxA5mDPwg) at the details there :)

I agree with both posts:  I agree that the latest C line is a step up in class with improved integrated electronics which control not only the boat, but all systems.  I do believe the fit/finish is better and the overall look of the boat inside and out is improved.  I also agree that the vacuum process in the hull was mandated to protect workers or to thwart potential problems, but not an improvement whatsoever.  A huge reason I chose a Bavaria was because they produced a solid hull, hand layup.  I can't wait to see the new line but even if I was in the market for a new boat, I would seriously debate the vacuum infused hull.  Time will tell if there are issues with their process or design.

+1 on the agree line: In my view the internal joinery is really a step up from current Cruiser-line, but regarding seaworthy design still lacking the robustness from around 2000-models as Yngmar pointed out. No - I am not biased because I'm a happy owner of 2001 B40 Aft-cockpit model ;)

First second look at the integrated electronics is a small "WOW" - until at least 2½ questions rise up...

regarding the last post I've to say that under the floor there is a very wide space with all the (eventually) future integration (such as dissalator and so forth) are already cabled so you don't have to make holes or whatsoever.
Led light inside turn red by night if U like, so the answer is yes they have already thought to this...

I own a 2015 Bav 41 which I love.  I also love the C45, I think she looks fantastic and is well thought out and designed.  What I don't understand is the HUGE price differential with the current (previous) range.  I would buy one tomorrow but simply cannot justify the cost of changing for an additional 4ft!
