Title: Water Tank Inspection Cap B44
Post by: s/y Susanne on July 27 2017, 17:04
Anyone have a source for the screw-on lid or cap fitted to both fore and aft water tanks on my B44 (2002)  Mine are green, made in Austria and look like an IBC cap but having tried an IBC lid find that even the "coarse thread" version of IBC kit is too fine a thread.

Original has split and proved to be a frustratingly irregular source of water in the bilge as it really only leaked when the tank was filled to the level of the deck fitting.

Good question. Mine are probably the same. They are green, have a "Pt" logo on them and "Made in Austria". No idea what they are. Mine only had leaking seals (white flat ring seals), which I unsuccessfully replaced with an IBC seal (leaked even more) and for now solved by returning the original seals and making a tightener tool to screw them down hard. So far so good, but would love to know where to get spares for the seals and lid if one splits.

Did anyone find the "Pt" company that made the lids, and possibly the tanks?

Nope, sadly not. It's for fresh water tanks, not waste, and green.

My fresh water tanks have the same clear plastic caps.

We're talking about this type, from J&J era Bavarias:

Yes its the green one but Clipper write today:
I am sorry but Bavaria can no longer supply these caps. Unfortunately the supplier is no longer in existence and they have since changed the design of the tanks.

Mine leaked, and then cracked when tightened with a bit more torque!  The standard IBC is strikingly similar but the thread is too fine even when it is described as a "coarse-thread" IBC Cap.

Bottled water?

Rubber sheet and giant hose clip? Clingfilm and string? 3D printed lids?

I'll be treating mine with the utmost care knowing this!

Hi

When my rear tank was leaking at the Lid, I put a Small ring of silicone on the Inside and placed the Rubber Seal on top
No Problems now for over 5 Years

Can you not replace the whole lid by cutting out the old lid and thread on the tank, then bolting a flat plate with a new lid fitted to it?  Some stainless steel bolts washers, circle of polypropylene or acrylic and a gasket would do the job?

Just a thought.

Ant.

Update: I now have two on order from Clipper. Will post to confirm that they fit!

Any update? Ours has meanwhile also cracked. Any info on part number and price from Clipper would be useful - if they were the right ones!

For future reference: 163mm across threads and 13.6mm thread pitch.

The latter seems to be the problem - the IBC lids are all 6mm thread pitch.

This is quite a bit after the fact, but it will likely turn up in someone's search.
Our 1997 Bavaria 46E has 200L water tanks produced by Cipax in Sweden. www.cipax.com

We were having issues with our inspection caps leaking when we filled the tanks. We contacted them, and they sent us new O-rings and 2 new caps, no charge. Their responsiveness was outstanding to every question.

Thanks for the update Cassiopeia. Can you confirm it's the same lid as the green one depicted in my post above? Do you have a photo perhaps? There are no brand markings on our water tanks that I can find, only a capacity marking. The green lid has a logo that probably reads "Pt" and "Austria".
