Hunting seals (for fridge)
« on: August 14 2015, 00:25 »
I'm on the hunt for seals for my top-loading fridge. The old ones are full of mould and crumbling.

The lid part is a square black rubber foam strip, 15mm wide and 1.5mm thick. The bottom part is white foamy stuff, sits in a groove and is 8mm wide, wedge shaped 3mm on one side and 2mm on the other and covered with a transparent plastic film (presumably to allow sliding the lid around when having one half open).

After some search (including sealsdirect.co.uk and Wilks Rubber) I can perhaps find the black top bit, but I have no idea where to find the film covered bottom strip. Any ideas? I've fired off a web contact form thingy to Clipper marine, but am not holding my breath.

After a long and fruitless search involving Clipper marine and various seal specialist suppliers, I've stumbled upon the (almost) right seal by sheer accident. It's a very simple and cheap single-sided draft sealant tape that has the plastic film to enable the lid sliding back and forth on the seal. Unfortunately the only one I could find was 15mm in width, but given some more time to look around (busy moving at the moment) I'm hopeful that I can find the same in the required 8mm. Meanwhile I've taped the 15mm in, simply letting it overhang the edge. This works surprisingly well as it is and there is no draft from the fridge.

The tape I've found is here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321901340336
